OK I've been doing this for a while now, and this is the first I've come across this problem. I recently copied all of my files into an external and reformatted my whole drive and reinstalled XP. I then copy all my files from my external back into my internal drive. Now I am getting an access denied error, which I have gotten before. So I have taken ownership of the folders and set it to inherit. If I right click on the files, it says I have full control and I am the owner. So why am I still getting an access denied error? Any help is greatly appreciated.

I can get into the folders but not the files, if I try to open the file, I get Access is denied! on files that are .txt and on Word docs I get, "Word cannot open the document: user does not have access privelages."

I am administrator in my computer, plus I did try doing this in safe mode as the local admin. Also, I tried ending explorer and still no luck.

Thanks for the replies so far.

another program is accessing the file while your trying to move it. no need for alarm. Its normal

it could be explorer trying to build thumbnail data, or reading other info about the file. It seems normal exp for large files

try control alt del
end task on explorer under processes tab

then file, new task, type in explorer.exe

then try again

if that doesn't work, close all programs

----- after reading your question again. I might be wrong. Whats the EXACT error message your getting.
