Ok, that super dreaded time of month has come along! I have my freaking period. This is my fourth one (hint, I am 13) and every single one I have hated! I mean really hated. This time I had bad cramps all night then all day. But I'm not worried about cramps, I just hate the flow. I am having problems this time because I want to try using a tampon but am having big problems. And I am scared because I don't want to have a regular period. I'm still young and waiting for that long gap between periods, my last 3 have been about 30 some days apart. Does this mean that I am regular now? Also, I need help learning how to insert tampons and what I can do to adjust to this horrible curse!!

The tampons that are in my household have no directions whatsoever! They just have pictures and info on how great they are! bummer, really. I haven't even told my mom about my period yet, and I'm not planning on it!

Haha,

first off, sense you just started getting it, it dosnt mean that you are having a regular period cycle. I mean its possible, but usually girls can go for months having a regular cycle then stop for a couple months, or even years! When i first got my period i had a normal cycle then it just stopped, for about 3 years. If your really active in sports or are just a really active person it will stop for a little bit or be irregular.

To insert a tampon....go here haha

everyone has trouble at first but sooner a later itll be a breeze.
and yes, i know, we all dread our periods they suck! but its just part of life and as soon as you come to accept that it wont be as bad

Well right now I know you think you're cursed, but when you get older and want Kids you'll be glad you are having a regular normal period. As for using tampons you should really be talking to your mom , but since you are asking us.... one of the best ways to insert a tampon is to Stand and put your foot on the side of the tub or toilet. from there you can read the directions that come in the box. It is easy after the 1st time or two. Good luck.

well to find out how to use a tampon the best thing to do would be to read the instructions on the box or ask a female family member that knows how to help you. tampons are pretty easy to get the hang of and they're a lot easier and a lot less of a problem to deal with plus they help when you want to go swimming during your period. your period should usually come between 28 and 40 days so i would say your pretty regular but it can still go out of whack. extreme exercise can help with that also. exercising more than you usually do can cause your period to come later but its best to stay on a regular pattern. you better get used to it though cause you have your whole life ahead filled with many more periods.

Well, firts of all... if you do not change your attitude about your period you will always hate it. Our attitude about something usually determines our experience of it.
I LOVE my period, it feels good, it boost your metabolism so it helps you lose weight, it cleanses your blood supply, it is a time or release and replenishment for the body. It might take some getting used to, and I know that it just started for you but if you change your perspective on it, you will chnage your experience of it.
Tampons will usually be pretty hard to put in until you lose your virginity, although it can be done. If you want to try to use them (which will defintley make you not as freaked out about it cause them you will not have the pad and the flow in your panties) start with the smallest size you can get with a plastic gentle glide applicator.. follow the directions in the box for body position and insertion tips, go slowly and be gentle with yourelf...you can also place something on the plastivc applicator to "lube it" like olive oil or a nonscented lotion to help it slip in easier. If you use the smallest size (low flow)you may ned to change it more often until you get used to putting it in and then you can try to move up to a larger size (medium flow). You are regular and alot of girls get regular at 12 or 13 so you are definalty at the right age.
The BEST advice though, is to change your perspective and attitude about the period... if you see it as a curse you will always hate it and your body will respond with more symptoms.. if you see it as a sign of womanhood, a cleansing for the bodya nd a beautiful natuarl thing (which is how I see it) you will learn to love it, or at least not HATE it as a curse

A few things. Avoid caffeine around period time; makes them worse and the pain worse. Medicate yourself with Motrin or Naprosyn, not Tylenol. (But make sure to eat when taking a pill) Take them around the clock. If the bottle says every 6 hours, then do it every 6. I like a heating pad at all times on me during my period. I even sleep with one. The flow. I like the maxi pads of always. They have more of a plasticy feel and keep the moisture off the skin. Use thicker pads; they hold more. I don't like tampons because even if I can get the tampons to stop the flow, I still need to wear a pad because sometimes they leak. Also, I don't like being exposed to Toxic Shock Syndrome. Not good.

No one can really say if you'll stay regular. (I started less than a month before my 14th birthday and was pretty regular the first few months--now, two years later, it's totally random.)
I get what you mean about hating it, let's be honest, menstruating at 13-17 is pretty unnecessary. But it means that your body is working, that you're internally healthy (horomones are functioning), and you have an excuse to be moody that your female relatives will understand.
As for tampons, I can only say to change it according to the directions and relax while you insert it. (I've never been a fan of them, so be really glad if they work out for you!)

It will take time to adjust -Your body to everything-! 30 days apart though is regular! Its okay that is how long they are supossed to be apart! I had the same problem with tampons when I was younger! You should go to your doctor and ask them to help teach you how if you dont want to ask your mom! I had my doctor teach me!! Also you could try reading the box that might help!!! I hope you get this figured out!! If the pain gets to bad go see your doctor okay!!
Now check this out! I hope I helped sweetie!

I just wanted to add to the no caffine comment! I dont think that causes more pain! DId you know that caffine is in Midol ect... those pills you buy to help with cramp, bloating, fitigue.

Also If you dont already have one buy a hot pad that you plug in! Place it on your abdomen or lower back and it will help allot with the pains! Also warm to hot baths are good too because it loosens everything up as well as helps with the pains ect....

I started when i was 11 iam 13 now. You should probly use pads until your get heavier. I have had mine along time and ive never used a tampon. Try pads there easier. Maybe not as comfortible but better for your body. If your having trouble talk to your mom.

oh yeah that sucks, i wouldn't bet on anything your first couple years having a period, but when i started having one (at 12, i'm 16 now) i had really bad cramps too, what works is like a week before i think i'm gonna have my period i stop eating like anything with wheat in it and no cramps! i dunno why but it works, my friend told me about it, cuz her mom told her, anyways the every 30 days sounds about normal they're not gonna be spaced any farther appart than that if you're healthy, inserting tampons is always fun. the key is don't push too hard when inserting them and read the little instructions that are in the pacage w/ them BEFORE you have to use one. (it sucks to try and figure that out when your'e in a hurry) good luck!
