I had some perks. I had 3 weeks vacation, I had 3 days sick leave, YES, Three days. My employer contributed 3% to my SEP every month. It was a small Vets office where all of us did everything. If i really didn;t feel well for whatever reason, I would tell my coworkers and they would help fill in for me that day as I would when someone else ddn't feel well, it was a system that worked for us. I am now retired.

Regular paycheck that provides for me and mine. Health care coverage including dental and vision. 6 weeks of time off annually which can be cashed out if you don't want to take the time off (but I think you should be committed to an asylum if you don't take the time off). Free Coke, coffee, tea, some other things. Paid holidays. Paid jury duty. Profit sharing if you stay for a minimum amount of time. Inclusion in their 401(k) match if you decide to use that means of savings. Another listing on my resume. I get to know people I would not otherwise ever meet. The company does a day-at-the-ballgame (courtesy of the company) where it's free including the hotdogs and soda. They give an annual summer picnic somewhere in the vicinity where the families can come. They do a Habitat-for-the-Humanities-type thing. They have a Holiday party somewhere swanky (but for employees only, no families or significant others). They have a few other things they offer.

Besides the paycheck?

I get to play with kids all day, I am off when my kids are off, I get a tan at lunch duty, there are always yummy things in the teacher's lounge, my co-workers are a ton of fun.

I teach public school (high school)

*I get to work out (wgts., pull ups, dips, etc.) in the high school wgt. room before classes start for the day.

**Very convenient, and NO waiting!

*I get to be as creative as I want with my students so that they may exceed the state standards of achievement.

**This absolutely TORQUES the rest of the slacker staff at my school, delights the kids and their parents, and keeps the administration off of my back!

*I get to ride my motorcycles into work whenever the weather permits.

**I can change/dump my motorcycle safety gear in the locker room before I work out and then go to class.

**The weather in Northern CA is perfect for motorcycling.

**The kids really dig my bikes.

*I have the option of getting paid to do extra duties around the campus

**Even though I teach P.E., I also service computers on campus.

**I teach/supervise the "Saturday School" program at my high school (s special disciplinary program).

***I talk to the students, propose a better way to interact with the staff and each other, and I show a series of motivational documentaries (martial arts, military training, etc.).

***I rarely have repeaters, and most of the students greet me whenever we pass each other on campus.

**I get to teach summer school!

***Tough work, but I'm handsomely compensated for it.

*I see closure at the end of the year when the students graduate.

*The students regularly stop me on the street and greet me.

**This happened in the zoo and on the beach in a city more than 100 miles away!

Total blast!
