This is a basic observation about the survival of the human spirit. We read about people surviving the most horrendous situations such as injuries, illnesses, imprisonment, loss...and much more. Nietzsche observes that those are only "hows". They represent HOW someone lives. The power to go on through all those hows is furnished by a WHY. Why go on? Why live? What are you living for? That is your why. If you have a goal and a purpose, you can and will survive.

The question of "why" concerning the purpose and significance of life. if answered positively by us, provides the underlying sense of meaning and mission for our lives. With that as a foundation the question of "how" we live will not be as critical or as high on our priority list as it can be without that foundation. In short,Nietzsche says that a sense of meaning in life lends strength to accept adversity and misfortune we may encounter. Meaning is paramount.

I want to say that anyone who has a reason to live will live through everything, but it says anyHOW not anything. So I supose it means if you have a reason to live, you can bear any reason about how you came into being or how you live.

We will give up our life for a cause, but resist to the utmost, anyone who tries to take it.
