I have two, true-life morbid tales, one which is still sad, the second which is funny, kind of:
Ten years ago, I stopped by my father's home to check on him. He had dropped dead in the kitchen, either late the night before or very early that morning. His eyes were opened and his skin had green-blue mottling. When my sister finally arrived, she and the paramedics stood near the body and talked about their jobs. They never covered Pop. The coroner didn't arrive for several hours. After the body was removed, my sister started looking for the will and had a Realtor look over the house right after the funeral.
Here's another true, morbid story: For a wedding present, my mother-in-law gave me a pre-paid, life insurance policy for my husband who was not ill. We are now divorced.

Yeah, once when I was in Tampa Florida I came upon a sad scene on a city street. The traffic was backed up and as the cars slowly made progress past an obvious incident ahead (police lights, etc.) I saw a pair of men's tennis shoes in the street. I knew then that someone had been hit by a car. Many times when people are struck by a car they are knocked out of their shoes and the shoes stay right where they were standing when the car struck them. Sure enough a half a block down the street lay the victim, dead and covered with a blanket. Sad but just one of many odd things I have seen in my life. After all I grew up in Miami, Florida and lived in New Orleans before finally finding a permanent home on the Mississippi Gulf Coast.
