Well, Duh...it should be obvious. No one ELSE has driven the car, so it's not abused by anyone, always a risk with used cars. The 2 or 3 year old car could have been in an accident, flood, etc. It could have been mistreated,no matter how low the mileage. Or, it could just be a lemon someone is trying to get rid of. That enough concrete for ya?

Have you seen the way some people treat their vehicles? When you buy something a few years old, you inherit all the problems from the previous owner. The only way I'd take on that responsibility was if the vehicle was Certified Used by the dealership and has a 100,000 mile bumper-bumper warranty.

I bought a very nice Solara (not certified) from a dealership a few years ago and loved it for a couple of months......until my power window motor quit working!!! I was stuck with buying a $250 part. Fortunately my husband could install it, or it probably would have cost $500. If it had been certified, the dealership would have had to fix it at their cost.

New cars are not always better, some times u buy a brand new car and figure out that u had a better one though it's the same brand and the same class.

but to answer your question properly I can say that machines in a car work better when they are just built and ready to use over the machines in a car that has been used for 3 years being exposed to many environmental conditions that may have affected the functionality of the car.

None usually. The only solid answer I can give is the new car warranty coverage.
Also, if you are comparing similar models, the newer car might have some kind of newer technology, so might have a neat new feature the older car won't have, or a new safety feature that wasn't available a few years ago, or get better fuel mileage, etc. Of course the new car might have something new in it that you don't like, so can work both ways.

I'd Say the number one reason for buying new as opposed to use is there is no "hidden" history of abuse. It's a fresh slate you'll get a warranty and you will know everything that has been done to your car when it's new. Used cars carry with them a lot of "possible" abuse including shotty repairs bad installations (alarms, audio,... etc.) Maintenance is always iffy there is no way to prove a car has been properly maintained by all of it's owners unless they took it somewhere every time and kept the receipts and paper work and you can't guarantee the work done there was grade A.

Because that is the sales pitch. Really, do more cup holders make it a better machine? Break down the TV ads. At one time, cars were sold based on durability, a car could be handed down thru the generations it would last and last.....then cars were sold based on horsepower......then on agility.......then on minimal fuel consumption........then on towing ability/ruggedness......then roominess........then on warrantees.....then new technology......now there is no promises other than it is "fun to drive"
Good reason to shell out 20G's for a car with a few more cup holders.

All smoke and mirrors.

only reason would be that you do not get a good resale on cars anymore. Insurance savings on an older car.
but get a new one if can you afford it. lower maintenance costs.
It is really a personal opinion.
But, I did learn keeping a car for more than 5 years and you get a hosing at trade in time

Newer, better technology on the cars. Also any faults that were on the previous models should be addressed, but this is not always the case.
