Remember when they went back in time in Star Trek 4 the movie? The transparent Aluminum wasn't the only thing Scotty shared in trade for the plexi glass for the whale aquarium

They used sophisticated transporter technology to send it back to us--actually in the 19th Century, where the people who thought they had invented it named it for an ancient God of Fire. But it was only a figment of their imagination and they couldn't believe their ears.
