I never exactly wince at the word, but I would much prefer something like "sexy" or "manly". Cute is a description used for puppies and hallmark cards. Most men have too much pride to be associated with such things.

I think most guys like compliments on their looks, no matter what. Maybe some "bad boys" want to be called just handsome. I don't know. I really came to this question to see what the guys said. I hope some more answer. I just saw one.

Some men may not want to be cute b/c they think it has a sisterly/babyish context to it. They rather you think they are sexy or handsome b/c that implies an attraction to them.
Cute is more like a teddy bear.

I used to call my husband adorable all the time when we first were dating, and it made him crazy. He hated it. I even looked up the definition in the dictionary to show him it wasn't a bad thing, it was a good thing, but I think it just wasn't manly enough for him.

hate it? not hate. I'm not comfortable with it, but I don't hate it. Cute seems more like a little kid thing .. or maybe a teen. But not now that I'm (cough cough) years old. I'm not cute anymore.

depends on what we're doing
if we're just sitting and talking to you and we make a funny comment and you say that, then no i don't mind
but if you just see me and say "you look really cute" then yea that's kinda not very complimentary
