I have a 2002 2.0 L Hyundai Sonata and I need to do an oil change, but I am not sure if I need 4 qrts or 5. My previous mechanic said I needed 4 & my present mechanic says for the size of the engine I need 4 1/2 qrts to 5.

How much do you think I need

I would begin with 4 quarts start the engine to get oil into the new filter and then add until it is to the full line on the dipstick. That way there you are not using too much or too litle. One thing to remember. Most of the time you engines are 4 quarts but then the filter takes an additional 1/2 quart.

Always put in 4 then let the engine idle for 45 seconds then shut it off and wait 5 minutes and check the oil. Add what is required to get to the full mark on the dipstick. Do you get that real techs don't memorize minutae like that?

Check under the hood take out the dipstick then wipe it with a cloth and dip it again and if the oil does not reach the full mark pour in that much oil till it reaches the full mark. Duh!

I'm not sure. Probably because I don't have a car, I think that's a good thing... Anyways, is there any way you could ask the person whom you bought it from, or the gas station?

rule of thumb! 1 quart per cylinder and you are good, and make sure you check the level (on dip stick) for it too good luck
