No night light or heat is needed. He needs a UVB reptisun or reptiglo during the day and a heat bulb to bask in the high 80's. See this website for good info:

Lighting/Temperature: Use a 24" REPTISUN 5.0 UVB light, this enables them to transform the supplements, that you will be giving them, into calcium. This prevents metabolic bone deficiency(MBD) which means your animal will have weak and/or deformed bones. An 60 to75 watt
incandescent light is needed for a basking spot. Note: the chameleon must not be able to touch the bulbs, this will result in burns to your animal. It's advisable to get a timer for your lights so you can regulate the day cycles without hassle. The day time temperature needs to average 75-80 degrees with a basking spot in the upper 80's. A night time low can reach ten degrees less than the daytime average.

you need a uvb badly, chameleons are highly suceptible to calcium deficientcy problems, without uvb he/she can not do what they need to do with calcium, so it builds up in their blood streams, and on bone spurs, it can even make their tounge dysfunctional, and they will choke on it. the nighttime bulbs are only neccessary if it gets really cold where you live at night, if the ambient temp of the inside of your house is anywhere from 70 above you dont need it, but if your in michigan or some ****, you better go get one,,, the red ones are the best, not the blue.

and in the day they need 12 hrs of uva and more importantly UVB, and heat, but you get eht heat form the uva and uvb bulbs put out no heat, go get one, they are florescent, pricey but without it your chameleon is as good as dead

UVB lighting can be harmful to humans as this is the lower range of the UV spectrum associated with causing skin cancer. Be sure the light source is shielded so there is no direct light spill into the room.
