I wish you the best of luck. As I read the law for your state, the landlord is responsible for the timely repair of your cooling system if air conditioning is mentioned in your lease.

Here is the law:

There is a group called Arizona Tenants Advocates. You may want to spend some time reading their articles and see if there is another link.

Go to this site to see what additional rights may be afforded you and your disabled child.

I will say a prayer for you as I can only imagine how miserable the situation must be for you.

I have one other thought: Maybe you could call your local pastor and see if there is someone who might loan you a portable air conditioner that can be rolled from room to room until you finally locate your landlord and his repair services.

Or call 911 and ask emergency services if they know of an organization such as the Red Cross who can assist you.

You need to learn more about your rights--in your area--especially regarding people with special needs.

Your lease may offer some insight BEFORE you contact code enforcement, or possibly, the DA's office. Do you know how old the A/C unit is? Have there been problems on and off with it since you've lived there?

Quite often, high temperatures will cause power outages from extensive A/C use. But, if that were the case, you'd have no power or a "brown out." Unfortunately, even in this fast-paced, high-tech age, an uncaring Monday-Friday mentality continues to exist. This will amount to an unfortunate learning experience for you. More than likely, it will happen again, if not there, then someplace else. So arm yourself with knowledge this time around.

I hope that you find a way to minimize your child's discomfort--and your blood pressure from the added stress.
