if you are a seller in ebay, do you actually make money from ebay?

EBay can be quite profitable if you are selling the right things. The more you put into it, the more you get out of it. That's the same attitude that works for most businesses. I used to sell tons of items, mostly expensive tools, machinery, and restaurant equipment I bought out of a local classifieds. Often you can find items in the paper that people really have no idea what they are and are taking up space. Well let me tell you $200 and a bit of haggling over the price can make you an awesome profit on eBay.

If people need what you have and you know what it's actually worth, you can make quite a bit of money reselling items.

Well, you win some and lose some. You have to pay ebay twice and paypal once and that adds up, especially if your selling stuff you find at yard sales and such. Sometimes you think your going to make a killing off something and you get one bid or none. Sometimes you think you'll be lucky to make anything off something and get multiple bids and a shameful amount of money. What I've noticed about ebay lately is its gotten so big that alot of people are ordering wholesale and selling dirt cheap on ebay, so when it comes to used items, they just don't sell as well anymore. Seems to me like its become retail instead the worlds biggest yard sale.

Try http://www.onlineauctionexchange.com they are really strict about what get posted on there site, and with no listing fees or end of auction fees you have nothing to loose. I once made a mistake on an auction I posted and within 30min of posting the auction they called me and pointed out the mistake and wanted to make sure I wasn't involved in any type of fraud. I though this was great and made me feel really comfortable using the site. I don't use ebay at all any more.

Yes, you can earn money. Just go into transactions with realistic expectations. In other words, set your minimums low and see what happens.
