I would love it! I believe first you are first going to see a increase to 17 regular season games for teams. The NFL new thing is getting teams to play overseas and they need a way to ensure that there is 8 home games.
I like the idea of less preseason games.
The first 1 the starters play like 2 series
The second game they play 1 quarter
The third game is maybe a 2 quarters
The 4th game they don't even get dressed for it sometimes.
Yes, that could easily be 2 pre season games.
The only weird thing would be how to combat the issue with the NFL wanting to start the regular season after Labor Day?
The regular season and playoffs would run to almost the end of February if they did it that way.
Or the regular season would start about the 3rd week of August.
I am sure the NFL would be successful no matter what.
Personally I would rather see this than the NFL doing International regular season games and talking about playing a Superbowl at a International site. That just seems wrong to me.
They should have just left NFL Europa alone. My fear is that they are going to put so much into the International effort that the fans will lose out.
Your idea has been presented at the owners meetings and has been voted 2x so far that I know of.
I bet that will change.
What most people do not know is NFL teams actually play scrimages with other teams before the preseason even starts during training camp. 4 in many ways is too much. I would rather see a 18 game regular season personally. That would be awesome!

No, the NFL works now so don't try and fix it. It is better that there are fans wishing for a longer season than having fans who complain about schedules being to long, enter the NHL, NBA and MLB. Football takes a larger toll on the body that any other major sport in the US. Extending the NFL season would result in more injuries. Preseason games are used to get teams ready to play and allow guys to move up the depth chart. Preseason is more important for the 2nd and 3rd string players or even the players hoping to stay with the squad. All in all, America loves football as she is why try and change her?

I think a lot of fans, players and TV networks would love that.
Not so sure about the coaching staff on each teams though, particularly if they are still trying to finalise the final spots on the 53-man roster.
Then there's the college issue. When exactly would they start the NFL regular season, seeing as they try to stay away from your Labor Day weekend so that the NCAA can take centre stage. It would seem weird having the season end in mid-to-late February.
But, I'm sure if the NFL wanted to extend to 18, they would find a way to do it. After all, they extended from 14 to 16 all those years ago, and I don't think many people are still complaining about it.

No, they shouldn't extend the season.
The reason why is because most of the starters don't play more then 15 minutes all of pre-season and by the time week 17 comes along, look how many starters are hurt. Imagine if you cut 2 pre-season games where the starters don't play a lot and add 2 regular season games.
I know they get paid millions, but I think even these guys have limitations.

Great question...seems like they have expanded the league over the past few years, but left the season too short. I would like to see at least two (maybe three) more regular season games.
The contra would be that the guys may get a bit more torn up by the end of the season, but with proper training, they could safely do two to three more games.
Besides, the end of the season always seems to come when things are just getting interesting with starting rookies, i.e. Cutler, V. Young, Leinert, etc...

i would like to see two more regular season games but a longer season means a greater chance for injury and fatigue...remember starters only play one or two quarters in a preseason game so dropping two preseason games and adding two regular season games isnt the answer.. maybe droping 2 preseason and adding one regular game

that would be a good idea, preseason games are kind of pointless cause no one wants to send out there good players and stuff, i think adding two more regular season games and dropping two preseason games would be a good idea.

I couldn't agree with you more. The players and coaches don't want to play those last two preseason games, and the fans are ready to see some football that counts.

NO they shouldn't. I could see dropping a pre-season game. Don't even add a game, just drop a pre-season game because 3 would be plenty.
