I used to see in the back of the pumpkin carving kits, suggestions to carve watermelons ... and I was wondering if anyone has ever carved a watermelon.

Yup, I did a boat to serve the watermelon at a 4th of July barbecue, every one loved it.

Yes, you COULD use a pumpkin carving kit. I've seen them cut in half and used as punch bowls. Har de har har. I just saw you thing about MLK day, so I'm not amused. Derp. Now,if there is a US Southern Day", perhaps. Perhaps to celebrate MLK Day, kids could make plaster of paris statues of him.

i carved a basket to make a fruit salad. never tried to make it carved like a 'punkin. that does sound fun
i think i will try that for the 4th.

I did it with a fruit called a Pamelo...but it doesn't last long.
