ok me and my friends were talking about periods and stuff and my friend said that she got her period for 50 days straight! i honestly couldn't believe it. well...just wondering why something weird like that would happen to someone (what would be the causes, etc) oh and here is some info that might help you guys out.

1. shes a virgin

2. she wasnt on any birth control/hormonal pills (but after that 50 day period she took some to fix it)

3. she was 14 at the time

Hormonal imbalances and PCOS can cause that because you don't ovulate when you have a period for that long (and longer).

I know because it happened to me in 1992. I bled for a year because I stopped ovulating.
I have PCOS.

PCOS can cause someone to have a period for a very long time. I had one for the entire month of Jan and the first week of Feb.. It was the best Valentines day in the world! I have never heard of someone the age of 14 having symptoms for PCOS but you never know.

Holy crap, if my periods went longer than two weeks I'd either be on the phone making a doctors appointment or going to the emergency room!

Did you ask her what her doctor said was the problem?

She had a cycle where she did not ovulate and her hormones were all messed up so she could not stop bleeding until they gave her some hormones. She should have not put up with it so long!!!
