Absolutely! Mystery (apple) snails have a longer life span at room temperature than tropical temperatures (10 vs. 3 yrs). The nice thing about mystery snails is that it takes two to reproduce (although the females can store sperm for a few months), so if you only get one, remove any eggs for a few months (easy because they're laid abive the water) no snail overpopulation.

Everyone who I've come across that has tried have had their goldfish eat the snails. Goldfish are greedy and always hungry, so if they think that they can get at the snail it probably won't end well for it. In fact, the local Petsmart where I buy supplies tries to keep their mystery snails in a large display tank with goldfish and koi, but the bottom is littered with the shells of the ones they've eaten. Maybe some would leave a snail alone, but I wouldn't try it.

Yes they can. They can take a wide range of temps. I have kept snails of all types in all of my tanks for years and never had any problems with mystery/apple snails or any snails for that matter except overpopulation cause I hate to destroy clutches.

I have 9 mystery snails in my feeder (goldfish) tank right now. Sometimes you might get a goldfish that may nip at a snail but I have never had any deaths other than old age.

No, b/c mystery snails are tropical (need temps of approx. 74 degrees F) and goldfish are cold water fish (happy in temps around 65 degrees F) Heating to accomodate the snails isn't good for the goldfish. Heating to accomodate the goldfish isn't good for the snails.

EDIT:
Um, ALL fish need filtration!!!

Yea, of course. I have 9 of them in my 120 gallon goldfish tank. The goldfish never hurt them and they don't hurt the goldfish.

Hope I helped.
