I'd love to say Torre. But I can't stand the guy. Yes, he's got the WS wins. But he overworks the bullpen, and makes some bad decisions. It's Mattingly that needs a shot at Manager.

To answer your question, I'm going to have to say Jim Leyland. I don't exactly love the Tigers. But as they are a team in MLB that aren't the BoSux, they have my respect. And they are actually a quality team. Especially with Leyland. He did GREAT managing the Tigers last year, considering they went to the World Series on his first year managing. He's going to do a good job this year too. He also did some good with the Pirates and the Marlins. (He also brought the Marlins to the World Series, may I point out.) I think he's an overall good manager that's doing EXTREMELY well right now.

I would love to have Joe Girardi be my manager, because he is good with matchups and just knows a lot about the game. Although since he isn't technically a manger right now, I'll go with Tigers manager Jim Leyland.
As a White Sox fan, I've seen many occasions where Leyland is "at work" and he has turned the Tigers from the laughing stock of the Major League to a title contender. And it's basically the same reasons why I'd take Girardi: He plays matchups well, will call for steals, hit and runs, bunts, anything to score a run. He just knows a hell of a lot about the game and is a great clubhouse leader.

Jimmy Leyland of course. I could go on and on about how he took a wowful Tigers team and turned them into a wrecking ball. But more importantly, the tenacious little monkey chain smokes in the dugout. Now that's a skipper!
He's the best manager, and would be my manager if I "had to have 1 game."

the two managers who i think are doing best are the milwaukee manager (sorry i dont know his name) and bob melvin of the diamondbacks.

they are taking two teams who are youthful and not the most talented, and turnin them into championship contenders.

if i had to take a manager for one game however, i'd go with jim leyland.

Bobby Cox. Even though the Braves lose year after year in the post-season I still think Bobby is a great one. Even after so much heartbreak I still trust in him when playoffs roll along.

Ron Gardenhire. He does the most with the least. And, he just beat Leyland two games in a row in Detroit.

Jim Leyland in Detroit. I think he's always been a great manager whose track record speaks for itself. He's always poised and shows great discipline and his players always seem to respect him for it. Great question.
