The injuries in competitive ballroom are the same as in any contact sport. In addition, people get all sorts of injuries from dancing incorrectly.

Most common is probably pulling a muscle, most common among that - pulling a muscle in the neck or in the back. I was fortunate enough not to get any broken bones, but in 6 years of dancing I've seen people brake hands and toes, get mild concussions, tear ligaments.

Any of the above can be related to either accidents or dancing incorrectly or to both. In addition, many ladies get their backs injured by dancing incorrectly (Standard) or by attempting to do too much (Latin). Many people, especially ladies, get foot injures (stress type of injury) from poorly fitting shoes. This one is exremely common. Men get injuries sometimes when learning drops. One would think, it's the lady who's in danger, but actually it is the man. Men won't let her fall on the floor at the expence of their muscles pulled in various plases.

I have been competitive dancing for years and nobody I know including me has ever got an injury. It's not as intense as people believe. It's not like figure skating or gymnastics.

Some girls who have had prior health issues may get injuries from dancing but I never had or anybody I know.
