Remember BEDMAS -- brackets, exponents, division, multiplication, addition, subtraction.

Start with: (-1)^3
Equals: -1
Then: 2(-1)
Equals: -2

=-2

see the cube, it cubes what ever is directly infront of it, in this case, parenthesis, therefore, it's whatever's inside the parenthesis.....negative one cubed is negative one....
