There are a lot of public fireworks displays in most large cities. There should be a place to park your behind and look up at them. Grab a frisbee and a friend and go to the park. Pack a lunch/dinner with whatever you can find in the fridge. No food in the fridge? Go to the park or the beach and make friends with a big group celebrating and mooch off their food. Or stay home. Some fireworks displays are shown on TV.

1) Attend a free fireworks display (or get close enough to a "paid" show to be able to see them in the sky).

2) Eat a hot dog (veggie dog if vegetarian) and/or a piece of apple pie.

3) Make a committment to yourself to do at least one thing this year that you've never done before that celebrates what Independence Day is all about. Make a production out of it. Put it on your to-do list and paste it on the 'frig, or write it in your journal, or involve friends to join in--whatever. Just something that makes it meaningful for YOU.

4) Might not hurt to pay a visit to, or call, someone you know, if you do, who fought in a war. Or visit their gravesight....

If you want to see fireworks displays, find out where they're having them (a sports arena or public park or beach), find a place to park nearby. Some places even simul-cast musical accompaniments that you can pick up on your car radio.
