Just curious ,I know a lot of people who make big money on doing it .

Well not really, but one can get quite involved.If you collect to fill albums with coins by date and mint mark, I would say no. If your interests leads to Colonial coins, large cents, 1/2 cents as well as ancients or medieval coins then you have to read a lot and sometimes do research on the coins you buy. If you call that nerdy then so be it. I do collect ancients and the such and am a Vietnam Vet and far from a nerd. I do like to do research. That makes me a numismatist not just a coin collector. One thing about coin collecting is to remember it is the "Hobby of Kings". Also if you have the flair you can make money at it. I have collected for a long time so coins I bought in the 1960's and 70's are worth quite a bit now.

No, not at all. Over time you collect very different unique coins and you can sell them later for lots of money. Also, if you have a hobby dont let other people tell you it is not cool. I say, go collect coins! =D
