I would NOT tell them you have a crush on them because it would be highly probably they would then reject you. Instead perhaps tell a mutual friend with a big mouth that you sort of like this person (not head over heals in love) and then they will tell the person for you, without you even asking them to. Then that person will know and their behavior may change towards you. Or not, I don't know. I am not Dr. Ruth. I'm a science-geek basically.

Tell them.. you may feel embarrassed, however either 1) they will like you and you will fell good and have a relationship or 2) they will shut you down, and then, you will feel bad.. however you will then get over it and start looking for new people. As long as you have a crush on someone you are not looking at other people who may be good for you also.
it may be hard, but you will feel better after wards (much)
