I am trying to fix my d drive, at the moment it won't recognise or play cd/dvd's I have tried deleting and reinstalling the driver.

I have tried right clicking the drive to explore and is says access denied.

I have clicked on format and it says I don't have suffieicent rights to perform this opperation.

I think I have a phillips dvd-ram sdvd8821 drive but I think it may be corrupted or missing.

This is all the info I have, this is really annoying me because there doesn't seem to be a remedy tothe problem.

All I wanna do is listen to a cd and its really annoying me...

Any help is kindly received
x

You may need a clean up for your computer. ~

Go through a couple of safe mode starts (F8 on bootup). ~
Delete all the deletable temp folders and files C:\Documents and Settings\yourname.folder\Local Settings\temp
Then defrag your disc(s). Finally (or first) scan all with anti virus (recommended 30 trial of Pandasoftware.com).

Hi, seen as it is a DVD drive, then I would look at what region it is set at, double click my computer, right click on the drive, at the bottom click properties, there you will see a window appear, from there choose hardware tab, from that window click and highlight the drive in question, while that drive is highlighted, click the properties button at the bottom, another window will appear, from there look for DVD region tab, click that tab button, you will see what region the DVD player is in, here in the UK the region is 2, if for some reason it does not show any region numbers, you can scroll down the page and choose the country/region you are in, and set the player to that region, while you are in the properties window you can look at the device status, it should read "this device is working properly" any other message would point to a problem, and you the can trouble shoot the problem, by clicking the trouble shoot button, you can also make sure that the device is enabled at the very bottom of the properties window, if it not just click the drop down box and choose "use this device" (enable) click OK where ever to exit the windows, then try and use the player again see what happens, if every thing is as it should be, and you don't have to do what I have described then you have to look whether the DVD player has malfunctioned and may need replacing, I hope this is of some use to you, good luck with it.

It sounds like the cable that connects the drive to your motherboard is not plugged in all the way. You may need to open your computer and verify that the connector is firmly connected at both ends.

Have you tried restoring your machine to a time/day when it did work?
