I take it and it takes about 3 weeks to take effect. I have not experienced any side effects that are noticeable. I know that you can't drink alcohol while you're taking it.
It will definitely make you feel better. It has for me. I hope this helps you

Well, just because one person has side effects doesn't mean another will. I took one tablet of Zoloft, and it made me sick. I felt nausea and I felt like I was going to throw up. I also could not climax when I had sex with my partner, and yeah, that was from one tablet. However, my first and only dose was 50 mg, so I was told my doctor should have started me out on a lot smaller dosage.
Don't let my experience discourage you. I hear Zoloft is an excellent drug.

Everyone reacts differently to various types of medications. What happens to others may or may not happen to you.
Zoloft is one of a number of medications that controls serotonin, an important brain chemical that effects mood. However, like all medications, it also has side effects in many people. Virtually all of these types of medications take anywhere from two to four weeks to start making a difference for the person taking them. The suicides that we often hear about are actually quite rare and almost always occur during that first two to four weeks. That's why it is very important to be in regular contact with the prescribing doctor or psychiatrist, especially during the initial period of dosage. Often dosages need to be adjusted as some peoples symptoms or tolerances for the medication require more or less of the medicine.
If you are reluctant to take an prescription medication, contact your doctor immediately and talk it over with her/him. There may be very good reasons for taking it - or, it might not matter that much. I don't know how severe your symptoms are, but if they are severe enough for a doctor to prescribe this medication, then you definitely need to talk to your doctor about your concerns.
Common side effects are described on the packaging that comes with the medication. Also, a pharmacist is a great source of information about side effects. They are trained to discuss such things with doctor's patients.
Zoloft, and other serotonin uptake inhibitors, have been a medical miracle for thousands of people suffering from clinical depression. For a few, it either doesn't do any good at all, or it causes side effects so awful that another type of medication may be a better choice.
I don't know what your doctor's specialty is, but if she/he is not trained in psychiatry and/or psychotherapy, you might want to get a referal from your doctor to one who is. Clinical depression and anxiety has become a specialty practice and requires keeping up with the latest research and medical results. Often general practitioners are not current with such studies.
Hope that helps. And, I hope you feel better very soon.

My son, 16, has been taking zoloft for at least 4 years. Granted, he takes several other medications, too, but we've had no major side-effects from any of the meds except ADD meds who keep him from getting hungry.
