America was founded on the idea that we have free speech... so we can question authority... and in the marketplace of ideas, the best idea would win...
we've all seen many dictatorships that won't allow anyone to question authority...
which one to you think works better? History has judged in favor of "strengthen"... only those who can not defend their ideas and actions think it weakens our society...

That is one freedom we have, to question our leaders, but you also need to look at this. If you are not liking what is going on, complain, but have some idea what is the right course of action.
Always support the troops, they are following orders and doing their best to stop terrorism. Anyone who is very vocal, usually don't have a plan. I look at all the politicians running for President, all say they will do something, but none have said what they will do and how they will get it done.
We the People, should be demanding from our elected officials:
1. Safer secure borders.
2. A way to fix illegal immigration.
3. A positive plan for Iraq, without a public, or published time table, which the insurgents would love to have. All they would do is sit back and wait for us to leave, then take over the country.
4. Fix once and for all, Social Security.
5. Work on the tax system. It sucks and needs a complete overhaul.
These things would make America much stronger.

Strengthen. Think of Big Brother. No one questioned Big Brother. But then, you have to question with a logical mind. Don't tie up the courts for years on end just to question. And you don't have to question EVERYTHING. But be logical and don't be all trusting. Only then can you decide where change is needed to improve society and only then can you make it.

Failure to question authority only serves to strengthen those in authority. Society, in general, is thereby weakened.

Strengthen. People won't stop to use common sense or check themselves unless someone is there to call them on it. If you are on the side of right, then your argument should be able to stand up to a challenge. Not since McCarthy have we had so many idiots hollering treason every time someone raises a hand.

Depends.... Useful dialog and honest input are often useful and can give insight into different situations. On the other hand, mindless rants, false accusations, constant under cutting and worse, helping and encouraging an enemy are not only counter productive, but are in fact dangerous to our freedom.

Our founding fathers thought it to be a good idea to be able to question authority. Somewhere along the way most people began to change their thought & we now think being anti-establishment is bad, unless you're a Hollywierd personality.

Blind obedience is what is happening with the Terrorist bombers. Is it strengthening them?
Blind obedience has our servicemen coming home with student loans and repossessed homes, a lifetime of credit card debts, and totally disabled.
Are we stronger?

questioning the actions of those in authority keeps them clean or should do, but in this day and age it is considered un-american to question those in authority which tells me there is even more reason to question them
