I am a college student (junior year) and my goal is to start my own business in three years. My dream is to be an entrepreneur.
Someone once told me that simply all I need is a) a good idea and b) money. What does it really take to be successful business woman?

princess:

You have to find a product you love and think there is a huge desire and need for - if you enjoy it and can "sell" it you will be very successful - you do need some $ to make money but be wise and talk to people and see some success before you mirror it - hopefully you have a support system too (good employees or family/friends)..

The times are always changing so there is always a hot fad but if you stick to something you love that helps - and a need - I am married to a family business - custom kitchens, tile and baths - in the 16 years I have known my mother in law she set up shop in a small show room to grow - and run an online store - her passion was design and she does mega kitchens- she now has the largest business on the east coast and a web store (but it took hard work and smart people)!!

Also I enjoy working from home in sales it's my dream to be a nurse (helping others) implementing the health and wellness industry. It takes time - and hard work but it does pay off.

Well I am also a college student and a single mom who needed to earn some extra money but never did I imagine that I could own an at home based business and run my business from home, attend school and raise my daughter at home even if you just need income until you figure out what avenue to take when you finish school its a great oppurtunity. The company is called Ameriplan-Usa and I try to tell everyone I know about this oppurtunity because it's worth it....try the website

It actually takes a great SYSTEM if you look at the things around you it is all system based. McDonalds, WalMart and any other major business has an BUSINESS SYSTEM. Even the company that picks up trash for you have a system. You really have to look at some network marketing programs and you 'll be able to see the systems and maybe ork them and get some training while your young. Also these systems are not costly. One more thing, you have to willing to work on you harder than you work your business: PERSONAL DEVELOPMENT is more valuble than any sum of money.

Good Luck I will be proud

1st answer is good. Study other successful businesses, their tactics etc. Invest as much as possible back into the business. You have to stay one step ahead of the competition. If you have someone else handle your finances. Always check after them. People will rob you blind. They can do this gradually over time. So be strict about this. Read some of Dale Carnegie's (sp?) books. He has excellent advice. Know your company and be active in it's daily functions. It will require a lot of time, education, and devotion.
Be personable to others, including workers. This can go a long way. GL

Possibly one of the simplest and most important things to do is to create an action plan.

An action plan needs to define several things -

Where you are now
What you want to do
what you need to do
what your goal is **CRITICAL**
what you need to do to get there

then break the above down into LOTS of small steps - all with a reasonable time scale.

HARDLY ANYONE ever becomes successful in business is they do not have an action plan - it is one of the most crucial - and simple - stages of the whole game.

This may be too obvious, but the basic concept is to take in more money than you spend. As far as particular skills needed, it depends on the business you're in. Always serve the customer well and your business should thrive.

Provide something people want and are willing to pay lots of cash for. Know what is happening in the world and get into a booming market (like oil at the moment).

Own assets, minimize liabilities.

Make a business plan for each of your ideas, and you'll be better able to tell if it'll work or not. PLus, plans are what banks look at if your trying to get financing.

I think it's all money. To make alot of money, you have to have alot of money. You need more money than you even think you need to get a business off the ground. To borrow 10K for example, you already have to have 10K or the banks will not even look at your application. So, I think it's:
a) money
b) more money
c) even more money
Then you should be successful.
Go 4 it.
