At this particular moment I'm a bit jealous of Canadian new mothers and mothers to be. They have a great plan for maternity leave. 1 year paid leave that can be broken up between the mother and the father.
That's amazing that in the US, such a rich country, we can't do that.

I'm American and I've been to Canada once when I was 19. I loved it because I could drink alcohol there but not here cause you have to be 21 here!!! I thought the 2 taxes were weird when I was there. I'm not really sure about Canadians government. I don't think there is a President but what a premiere or prime minister type person. I can tell with accent when someone is from Canada. Many Canadians have a slight accent but you can still hear the differences. Some Canadians have thick accents though. Personally I don't have any bad feelings towards Canada. I think its cool that I live in a state that borders another country (NY) so thats cool too!!! LOL

I can't speak for everyone, but I do think most Americans are unaware of who runs Canada. As far as other knowledge, most Americans are taught the Canadian provinces at the same time as the American states. Beyond that, not much. We know you have different currency because your change mixes with ours on occasion. We know you have more wild animals. I think most are jealous of your healthcare. Oh, and let's not forget your sports teams. As far as telling a Canadian apart, it really depends. I have met quite a few, and could not always tell. The accent is not always a sure thing. The easiest to tell are French Canadians due to both the accent and the personal hygiene (lack of deodorant, but abundant use of heavy perfumes and cologne).

I think Canada is our hat.
Actually without generalizing I think the Canadians I meant are nicer and smarter than most Americans I deal with on a regular basis, I work at a hotel so I come across a lot of different people.

I like Canada. The roads are much nicer & smoother, and the radio stations have much fewer interruptions (I only drove through part of it).
As for Canadians, I can tell a Canadian from an American when a Canadian says 'ay?' after a lot of his/her sentences, ay? I've never known a bad Canadian, except maybe Chris Benoit (though I didn't know him personally).
Canadian Prime Minister is Stephen Harper.

I know that people in my circle of friends know that Canada has a prime minister (anyone who watches South Park knows that) and that Canada, while nice and generally peaceful, are weak militarily. Some people joke about this, but I think it's a more of a my cock is bigger than your cock kinda thing. I go to school with a Canadian woman. I tease her about it all the time, but I think no differently of her than I do of all my other American friends. People are people. Oh yeah and you can tell people are Canadian by the accent usually. The "Eh" and "Aboot" kinda thing. Or the Frenchish accent. I do find it odd that there is no right to bear arms, but only because I grew up in a gun-owning family so it's only normal for me. Basically there is nothing wrong with Canada, although most people I know like to joke about it because of it's weak military and seemingly weak population (the no right to bear arms thing). But like I said before, People are just People.

in general i'm curious about canada. in american public schools in general they teach next to nothing about canada (government, history, culture) so often american perceptions of canada are based on visible canadians in the media (tom green, dave foley, mike myers).
there's also a lot of canadian bashing in the media especially with stereotypes of how simple/stupid canadians are (ex: in south park) but i think it's just because canadians are presented as an easy scapegoat.
i've been to montreal before and really liked it and would love to visit or live there in the future.

I defenatly notice if it is a person from Canada, though I don't make a big deal about it... Accent usually gives it away... I know Canada is as cold as Alaska, has a long history of French and English rule because of resources... Don't they have a prime minister?
