The failure rate listed on the package is the laboratory failure rate, under laboratory condition the failure rate is under 1%. However the typical use failure rate is generally listed between 3-13%. All failure rates are the number of women who would be expected to get pregnant PER YEAR using that method alone.
So each year of 100 women at least three will get pregnant. It certainly IS possible that she is trying to entrap you, it is also possible it is a simple failure. Or maybe she stopped taking the pills because you broke up and then you got together one last time and she just wasn't thinking.
In either case you had sex, you know that sex potentially leads to pregnancy. If you were unaware that birth control pills have a failure rate I am sorry that schooling and life have let you down so badly however you are an adult and responsible for educating yourself. Educating yourself is part of being a responsible adult -that's all there is to it. Ignorance is not an excuse in this day and age everyone has access to information. You could have asked a doctor, nurse, pharmacist, called Planned Parenthood, looked it up in a library, looked it up on the internet, etc, etc. And of course you should be aware of whether or not you can or should trust any other person with such a serious responsibility that can potentially change the rest of both your lives.
If you don't want to use condoms there are many other types of birth control out there.
Typical use 8%

With typical use, the pill is 92 to 97 per cent
effective

However, with typical use, the pill may be as low as 92% effective.

With typical use, the average failure rate is between 3 and 13% per year, depending on the type of pill you are taking.

I will tell you my experience. My mother has given birth to 7 children and 2 of them happened when she was on the pill. One of my 2 is a pill baby.
This is possible and not as rare as some people think. If you truly love this women then try to work it out for your child. If you are all done with Mom then stay connected while she is pregnant and insist on a paternity test at the birth. If this child is yours be involved. If this child is not yours then tell her goodbye.
Good luck!

Birth control pills are not 100% effective, so yes, it is possible. I got pregnant while on the pill (and I've been on it for 7 years), but I was just being stupid and not taking it properly. I'm married, so it really wasn't a huge deal when we found out. But in your case, honestly, it could be either way. She could have legitimately gotten pregnant while on bcp, or she could've done it intentionally. Either way, you two need to sit down and discuss your options and figure out what works best for both of you!

it could be either, but you are in the situation and so you know things that we don't. if you suspect she trapped you it is possible. but like other women are saying on here, the pill is not foolproof, and she may have had a lot on her mind and forgotten to take the pill at the proper time, so it was less effective when she did take it later.
either way, work out what you want to do, my advice is to be supportive and when the baby is born---get a dna test.

If they are used perfect, they are around 99.7% effective, meaning women still do get pregnant on the pill. If she took the pills at different times, missed pills, or maybe was on medication that interfered with the pill, that would lower the effectivness of the pill, which means more risk of pregnancy. It's very possible to get pregnant while on the pill.

It could be either or. Do you trust her enough to believe in her and I mean fully believe? The pill is not one hundred percent effective. Last time I checked it has a 1-2% failure rate.

They are not foolproof, yet she probably lied to you. NEVER EVER believe anyone who says they are on the pill. Pass that along to all your guy friends. Unfortunately, some women do lie (I have know alot actually) about being on the pill to trap a guy.

According to the FDA, the failure rate of the pill is 1-2%. So it's rare, but possible.
...oh, yeah, and I'm assuming she took them as directed.
