Might be able to get a job in the billing department of a company, but I'm not sure if it's a position that's predominantly viewed as one being held by females.

It was described to like this:
Well, you will need to know the difference between accounts payable and accounts receivable (A/P, A/R) and familiar with basic maths skills. You will bill for our sister companies and electronically bill for several big accounts and will also pull deposits, answer phones, and file.

Almost sounds a bit like secretarial work? Girl job or no??

Not at all. It is nothing like secretarial work.

I have consulted with a lot of technology and telecom companies and always have a relationship with the billing dept. There have always been a lot of men working in there.

There are lots of different aspects to the both AP and AR. And it is a good place to start for the first year or so - gives you a real insight into how businesses work - like they say .....if you want to know the truth about anything....follow the money.

Good luck on your application.

Who cares if it's a girl job? As long as the pay is decent, it shouldn't matter. Nurses were seen as predominantly female for quite a long time, but when men began to realize what the pay scale was, the number of male nurses shot up.

I had a secretarial type job (basically exactly what you're doing) and I was making $20 an hour starting. People would make fun of my "girl job" only until the figured out I'm making more than most people in management positions make.

There is no such thing as a "girl job" any more. Fortunately such stereotypes have gone away, although unfortunately females still get less pay for doing the same job as males. More and more, even that difference is diminishing, although it has a way to go.

The important thing is: do you qualify? If you do, apply for the job if you think you might like the work. Clearly it is a clerical job, and if you need a job and this one fits you, go for it.

It's a person job, not "girl" or "boy" - "girl jobs" went out a lot of years ago. Remember when nursing was a "girl job"? Do you know how many male nurses there are now, making a very good and secure living at it?
