I have noticed this especially with political questions. Someone might ask, "Why are libs so pathetic" or something like that; there could be 30 compelling answers arguing that debate, and one person answering, "You're right, they're stupid," and THAT would be awarded best answer, just because it agrees with the questioner's narrow-mindedness!

Even one question asked who was hotter, Brad Pitt or Ashton Kutcher; 20 people said "Brad Pitt," with maybe ONE saying "Ashton Kutcher, Brad Pitt is too old to be hot," and the questioner awarded THAT answer as "Best Answer!"

So, my question is, are the "Best Answers" really awarded fairly and objectively, or are they awarded only to those who conform to the questioner's narrow frame of mind?

By the way, I WILL be objective and open-minded, and award "Best Answer" to the BEST answer!

I give best answer for different reasons sometimes. Here are the reasons:
1.) if they are informative and helpful
2.) if I like all the answers and I can't decide, I choose the one with the lowest amount of points
3.) it depends on the answer for me to choose whether it's because they agree with me or not
4.) if I just like the answer and it makes me laugh or something

Note: I stay far away from politics and religion topics because for the most part it's just annoying.

Honestly now, If someone asks a question for which they absolutely don't know the correct answer, how can they pick the BEST answer. I have seen people pick BEST answers on electrical questions that if followed would be totally unsafe and in violation of every electrical code in the world. If you're here for fun great, but if you really need some knowledge its better to do a search.

Someone who sounds like they KNOW what they are talking about. Not only that, but backs up their opinion with some good facts. Everyone has a different point of view, but most ppl lean towards the same perspective answers.

Oh and for the record, Ashton Kutcher man! =P
And I hate politics because ppl debate too much and die earlier.

This is really a very good question to ask; one that I have thought of asking myself. I think that it really depends on whether the question calls for an answer based on fact, or one's opinion. Generally, when the answer is based on opinion, I have noticed that the asker tends to go with the opinion that matches their own. Then again, sometimes I have noticed that the asker will choose the most interesting answer. I SAID SOMETIMES!

I usually give it to who I agree with.
Or when I'm asking a question to learn, I'll give it to the most descriptive and helpful answer.

You should give me best answer for reading all of that, but that really is how it is. You get used to it and live with it and don't worry about best answer eventually.
