Boy-this is a hard question to answer, particularly dependent upon what you mean by "poor citizens." I'm going to assume poor citizens are uninsured. If I make that assumption, the answer is "yes." I'm a lawyer who has a really good detention center as a client. By "real good", I guess I mean we don't get sued by the inmates or the guards. "Eat better" is kind of tough, too. The inmate get 3 healthy meals per day. Anytime you cook for a large group of people, the quality (taste) suffers. We have at least one doctor and one nurse on call at all times. If an inmate is injured, he/she is immediately transported to the ER. Basically, I think you're right.

Absolutely not, at least not better health care.
Here in California, staph infections are rampant throughout the prisons. There is no adequate treatment. If you have a serious disease, there is a good chance that you won't get your treatment or medicine. There's a good chance of dying in prison, if you don't have a lawyer to protect you. At least if you're a "poor citizen," if you have a heart condition and you think you're in trouble, you can go to an emergency room. A prisoner is at the mercy of the prison staff, who may or may not care. Criminal practitioners often have to bring motions to have a court order a prisoner released for treatment.
No comment about the food in prison--it depends where you're incarcerated.

Yes and No The health care in Cali is very good for the inmates...example : There was an attack on a guard that had serious injuries..The prisoner also ..The prisoner went by helicopter and the guard was transported by ambulance..Is that fair? They have better mental health treatment and are attended to much faster then anyone else.. It is bad for a death to occur for the inmates because then you have to have costly investigations..They have teams sent in from other places to do that......
On good days the food is not too bad but it isn't always that way..Guess it depends on which team of inmates is preparing it.. With TV , radio and some time to do drugs and gang banging I would say there is no reason for them to stay out !

Not in the Great State Of Georgia. One particular prison anyway. The man I love is currently incarcerated and the inmates there get one, yes one, slice of deli sliced meat per day. Yes they have 3 meals but no other protein. If you happen to get sick you must put in a request to go to sick bay where you may be seen by one of the nurses in 5-6 days where she will determine if you truly need to see the MD. If you get beat up or raped or stabbed then you get to go straight to the infirmary where the MD will decide if you need to go on the hospital.

No.
Poor citizens have free health care and food stamps.
"IF" you work, you are paying for both the poor citizens & the prisoners.

Yes...they do. They have basic "rights" poor law abiding citizens don't get. I'm not saying it's great.....but they get 2 - 3 meals a day....poor don't. They get TV..Cable etc....poor don't. Poor aren't guarenteed the basics....but criminal are.

Maybe, but it's not an improvement. Whether guilty or not, it's no place to want to be! No matter the amenities - like library, gym, cable, board games, etc. - you can always get beat up, and there's no way to improve your life if you suddenly got a great idea.

Yes. I also heard that some poor citizens do illegal things on purpose so that they can get in to jail so they can get food a place to sleep..etc.
