There were about a dozen or so minor league teams which formed the National Association of Professional Baseball Leagues (NAPBL) in 1901. Most of them were in upstate New York. In other areas, Wichita is counted as among those cities first hosting a team. In New York State you would have to count Rochester, Elmira and a few other places. By contrast, Tucson has only had a team in the PCL since 1969. Pawtuckett's place in the International League started in 1973.
The NAPBL is now the National Association of Minor Leagues and the sad news is that Wichita's team in the Texas League will be moving to Arkansas next season.
