1. I want my employer to provide me with a pension plan.
2. I want the government to take something out of every one of my paychecks and then pay it back to me in monthly payments after I reach retirement age.
3. I'm perfectly willing to save some money toward my retirement years out of each and every paycheck and I want my employer and the government to butt out. If I fail to finance my retirement years adequately I'll have nobody to blame but myself.

SSI is not insurance, it is a Ponzi scheme and America has been had by another socialist program.
The Fed did not tell people the truth about SSI, that it will not provide enough money to buy your food when you retire.

None of those things. I actually want the Congress to cower to the American People, and do as they're asked. Right now, actually, before I am of retire-able age.
However, I must say to you, that you are wrong about SSI, merely in the sense, that if you happen to live in a state where they have a Health and Human Services office (welfare), if you are poor, you will get food stamps. SSI means one is disabled, and unable to work. Most people on SSI, are younger, not elderly. SSA is when a parent is disabled, and their child receives benefits from the parent who is disabled.
I would say, though, that for those who can afford to, save your own damn money, invest it, and struggle if you must, so you can have SOMETHING when you retire. The government, since after FDR couldn't be trusted to know how to save a cent, for you!

Is this multiple choice?
1) if the government had protected mine when Halliburton bought out my company and ate up the retirement fund then started me over with 0 years of service.
2) If it be guaranteed and some neo-con don't erase it to balance his war bloated budget.
3) If my job pays enough over my meager living expenses. Most Americans can't do this and raise a family.
4) yeah, sure whatever.

we have been paying into social security for a long time. the arguement is that it is an insurance structure to guarentee a minimum income at retirement.
what most people dont understand is that most Americans who have been paying into this system dont have any other retirement income.
listen, this is America and we need to take care of our own. Forget the immigrants and foreign aid.......take care of ALL AMericans first...then worry about the immigrants and foreign aid.
America has enough money for EVERYONE to retire in comfort at age 60, but the money the government spends is pork barreled away into scams and frauds.
We Americans have a Government to serve us and care for us, and protect us. Got it? the government is to serve us, not for us to please and bow to the government.
If you want to stand on your own then more power to you, no one gives a crap what you do, but understand that Americans have paid a price in blood for these things you scoff at.

well... 3 is all well and fine... AS LONG AS COMPANIES PAY THE DIFFERENCE... for example... they pay what they would have put into a pension plan to you in your pay...
but that's the problem... for the lower 50 percent of America they wouldn't (and didn't historically) and that's how we ended up with needed SS in the first place... 3. failed 100 years ago...
1. I think it the best option, but companies care more about profit than the worker...
and we ended up with 2... it didn't just happen for "no reason"

3 all the way, i'll even go a step further and go with the goverment staying completly out of my life. I don't want their healthcare, I don't want their welfare, nor anything else from people who spend 300 bucks on a toilet seat. The people spend there own money much better then government ever could.

#3 didn't work so we now have #2 ; and you are damn lucky if you have #1.
SSI is not social security - SSI is supplemental security income - it is welfare for disabled individuals who do not have an earnings record to draw on.

You are cool!
Democrats hate people like you. They want you to take care of them, out of your benefits.
In 2008, Democrats will make working people like you pay dearly.
