My friend has sbc dsl on his desktop, and i wanted to connect to the internet using the wire connected to the desktop with my laptop. My laptop shows that it is connected to local connection, but no internet. Since the dsl doesn't autoconnect on the desktop, my friend had 2 click on a icon "sbcis" and press "connect". Do i have 2 make a "sbcis" on my laptop or is there some software to install?

You need a router so both of you can access. You are probably best off using a router that has 4 LAN ports.

Procure a router and connect the wan port of the router to the modem. Connect each pc via straight cat 5 cable to the LAN ports of the router.

Configure the router as the maker tells you to. Be sure to reboot the modem before connecting the router.

If you have problems, present a new question and someone will help.
