In general, are you disappointed by the quality of pizza from Domino's, Pizza Hut, Papa John's, etc.?

What has happened to REAL pizza crust!?! I'm tired of this porus, airy, and not chewy at all pizza crust. I think they only make money because they have the convenience of delivery and an abnormal selection of weird topping 'ideas'!

I seem to never be dissapointed by local pizzarias...its just the crappy national chains. They suck!

Thank you! Finally someone agrees with me! I drive 20 minutes to another state to get awesome pizza from a little family owned pizza joint. There is a Pizza Hut and a Papa John's 5 minutes from my home that are just awful.

I use to work at Pizza Hut in West Virgina about a year ago and i worked for them for 4 yrs. The pizza is good and all but it really does start to wear on ya. Papa Johns pizza is gross! Papa Johns owner use to work for Pizza Hut and Domino's is just even more gross!
Pizza Hut where i am from uses REAL dough. They have to mix it up every morning and its a real pain.
Pizza Hut makes more money than Papa Johns and Domino's. Pizza Hut is always busy.
But i would have to agree with the little mom and pop shops have the BEST Pizza's around. We just got back from NYC and we ate at this little restraunt and the cust on there pizza was the best ever. They didnt use pizza sause they used some kind of oil's and it was the BOMB!!

I don't know what they charge for pizzas in the US, but here in Australia it's pretty cheap compared to the independant stores. All I can say is, "You can't expect miracles if you pay for a cheap pizza." Quality ingredients cost money. This goes for any type of food.

In addition, I think that the independants wouldn't be as focused on sales volume as the big chains. Sure lots of customers is still a good thing, but it's the quality that the independants serve up, that will keep people coming back. It's like the difference between Sizzler's and an absolutely first-class restaurant.

I can't stand Papa Johns, Dominos, or Little Caesar Pizzas, but I do like Pizza Hut. I worked in Food Ave. at Target for a while, and they sell Pizza Hut Personal Pan pizzas there so I had to make them every day. They make their own dough, and it has to be so-so or you can't use it. They are very picky! Also pizza over 20 minutes old has to be thrown away. They are not tight when it comes to toppings, they put plenty on, and they taste good. I have to say Pizza Hut is one of the better ones.

I wouldn't say that I am disappointed in them, although there are certain chains I dislike. I actually think it is great that they all have such different and unique tastes. I also agree with you, that there are some great local pizzerias- some of which do deliver- but when you're constantly bombarded with ads for Pizza Hut, Papa John's, Domino's, etc. it is easy to forget about the mom and pop places.

ugh, i absolutly despise Papa Johns. even the smell makes me sick. we used to get pizza hut every once in a while until we went and they put an abnormally large amount of cheese on the pizza and literally thie first bite of pizza i ate was just a ball of cooked cheese. it was gross. the only chain pizza place i have nothing bad to say about is Donatos-which our family is a great fan of. -their sauce is one of a kind.

Actually the local Dominoes and Pizza Hut are quite good; it's Papa John's I don't like.

In Michigan Little Ceasars is fine....for $5-
But your best tasting pizzas are from the Mom&Pop joints, not the big chains. When I lived in NYC many years ago the same held true.

Yeah they do. I live in San Diego, a big city, and have only found two pizza places that are actually good. Its sad more people go to chains than to real places.

I'd say pizza hut is ok but other than that I'm not much of a fan of the other two. I don't know if you have Sal's where you live but I love their Pizza
