what we know:
1km = 1000m
1km = .62mile
1hr = 3600s

start with what is given,which is 60mile /hr.

60mile      1km       1000m       1hr
--------- x ---------- x ----------- x -----------
   hr         .62mile     1km        3600s

all the units cancel out except for meter and second (m/s)
the answer should be = 26.88m/s

A cool trick is to treat units like "mi/hr" just like they were fractions. Here's how this works:

You can multiply anything by "1", and it won't affect its value, right?

So that means:

60 mi/hr
= 60 mi/hr • 1

But now notice that "(1 hr)/(3600 s)" equals "1". Why? Because "(1 hr)/(3600 s)" is a fraction where the numerator is equal to the denominator. So that means:

60 mi/hr
= 60 mi/hr • 1
= 60 mi/hr • (1 hr)/(3600 s)

But now notice we have one fraction with "hr" in the denominator; and another fraction with "hr" in the numerator. That means we can cancel the "hr" out, just as though it were a number:

60 mi/hr
= 60 mi/hr • (1 hr)/(3600 s)
= (60 mi/1) • (1)/(3600 s)
= 60 mi/(3600 s)

Now do a similar thing to change "mi" to "m". This just means multiplying by "1" again, in a way that will cause the "mi" to cancel out:

60 mi/hr
= 60 mi/(3600 s)
= 60 mi/(3600 s) • 1
= 60 mi/(3600 s) • (1609.344 m)/mi
= 60 • 1609.344 m / (3600 s)

Now you've got the proper units (m/s), so just do the multiplication an the division:

60 • 1609.344 m / (3600 s)
= 26.8224 m/s

1 mile = 1,609.344 meters
1 hour= 3,600 seconds

60 (mi/hr) X (1609.344 m/1 mi) x (1 hr/3600 s) = 26.82 m/s

the hour and mile units cancelled out.

convert miles/hr to meters/hr
60 mi/hr x 1609.35 m/mi = 96561 m/hr
convert m/hr to m/sec
96561 m/hr / (60 min/hr x 60 sec/min)
96561 m/hr / 3600 sec/hr = 26.82 m/sec
