Every employer has a slightly different policy. Some pay every two weeks, some the 15th and the 30th or the 1st and the 16th, some pay once a month or once a week.
I would say that this is uncommon (usually an employer pays twice a month or every two weeks), but is legal.

'Common' does not apply to pay dates. Some companies pay every to weeks. Some pay every Friday. Some pay on the 1st and 15th of each month. I know of a courier company that pays on the 7th and 21st of the month. There is a trucking company that advertises pay every Thursday. As long as they follow the schedule you agreed to, that can set any schedule they want.

generally, it is up to your employer. in most cases they do disclose when pay periods start and end.
Most of the time when people get paid like this it is usually a sales position of some sort or commission only basis.
If your not happy try to see if they will pay bi-weekly or every other week.

Not very common but is possible and legal.
I personally would not like that deal unless they pay me a lot of money.
