C++ is the most common for programs. its the most versital language out there. this is the way to go, but complicated
java html and actionscript are mostly for web programming
.net is really server based code that is delivered to the user for tempory use. Its the future for companies that are tired of their software beign pirated.

there are a lot but the most common are Java and C++, with c++ being the most common. C and Assembler are also used sparsely, ASM being used very rarely and only in speed-critical apps. C# is another popular one but I discourage using it for its lack of portability and Microsoft's unwillingness to put it on Linux.
For new people like you I'd recommend learning java first because people say it's easier(I think c++ is way better). Good luck

There are many things that can be used. Basic, C++, java, etc. Look on line for progeamming languages and you will get a large asortment offered. Of course, some are easier to learn and use while others are more diversified in power.

I'll assume your new to programming.
Visual Basic Express is free and fairly easy to learn "modern" version of BASIC.
