Easy to do when most of them simply live together. :)

Another reason could be that they can't afford to get divorced. I worked in Boston and lived in MA for some time. My car insurance alone, tripled! I won't even get into the taxation and cost of housing. I know many who sell their home after retirement because they can't afford to pay the taxes. :)

Chi, for goodness sakes, you know darned well that anyone can come up with a reason for almost anything. LOL! This forum has made us experts! hahahahaha! I'm thinking about going for my law degree.. :)

To answer your question, I say PERHAPS, because there are very many variables that factor into this particular statistic.
Massachusetts, however, should be applauded for being the only state in the union to allow gay marriage. Not one argument against gay marriage is convincing from a humanist (secular OR spiritual, and yes, there is such a thing as spiritual humanism!) perspective. Kudos to Mass. for truly following the true principle of equality. As an aside, I always have a chuckle when people use the slippery slope argument, e.g. "what's next, marriage to dogs?" Remember EX-Senator Santorum, or should I say Sanatorium, making that very argument? I guess the fool forgot that dogs are not citizens, and cannot qualify for marriage licenses. lol.....

Did you know divorce lawyers commit suicide at a higher rate than the general population. Maybe there is a long list waiting. I'm not familiar with the community property laws there as I am with those here in Ca. Perhaps the laws pertaining to such have a bearing there.

divorce rate decreases with increasing education level of the spouses. The most educated are the least likely to have a divorce, not surprising: liberal Massachusetts also has the second ranked education system in the country right behind Vermont.

Everyone in Mass is not liberal. Do you know how many liberals get divorced, versus conservatives? Do you know how many liberals live together without getting married? Do you know how many homosexuals there are in Mass, either living together or living alone?
Lowest divorce rate is a meaningless statistic.
The liberals in Mass should get transfusions of sanity.

This is politics. Not Sunday School. It is easy to forget. I sometimes do.

I don't view this as a valid way to look at anything involving politics. Applaud them if you wish, I won't stop you. I do not have enough information.

I don't know. What is the marriage rate? If less people bother to get married there will likely be fewer divorces.

Could be that they are also including the same sex marriages,
why would they get divorced when no other state will have
them.

What is the divorce rate of heterosexual couples in Massachusetts?

God does not approve of same sex marriages.

No, I didn't know that. What does it have to do with believing in God? Don't they allow gay marriage?
Marriage is meaningless there, they should be ashamed.
