Puffers will consider both snails and shrimp to be excellent dinner choices. In fact, puffers need snails and shrimp as part of their diet to keep their teeth in shape.

Shrimp, snails, small crabs are dietary needs of the puffer group. Shelled crustaceans provide a dental need of keeping the puffers "teeth" (bony structures) to a proper length...their teeth are always growing like rodents and need to be worn down. If they aren't their teeth would meet and food would not pass. Depending on the size of the puffer and it's mouth, some snails and crabs might be safe for a while. Puffers are also messy eaters. There is lots of info at puffer websites out there.
