Don't miss:

Rome - spend at least two days - one for the ancient Roman sites and one for the Vatican, which is across the river

Pisa - about two hours, but you can catch the train there for -
Florence - check out the bridge, the cathedral, the statue park, the museums, the outdoor shopping marts with their leather goods

Cinque Terra - five villages against the side of the mountains between Genoa and Livorno - this is more laid-back walk on the beach sort of place - highly recommended

Venice - take the waterbus to a glass factory - check out San Marco - the gondolas are expensive, but the city waterbusses are a good buy and an excellent way to see the city
