In theater, you should have the whole package. I think it is a good idea to take dancing lessons if you want to be an actor, because it increases your chance of getting a good role. If you decide to take dancing lessons I think the best choice would be ballet, because once you take ballet you can dance all different types of dance. Ballet is very popular in plays.

you don't HAVE to do dancing to become an actor... If you are talking about doing film or tv... then you probably won't use dancing a lot... If you are want a career in musical theater like on broadway then I definitly recommend taking a dance class or 2. For musical theater its always a good thing to be a triple threat... Singer, actor, and dancer. I recommend something like a theater style movement class. so you can learn the basics... You don't have to be really talented with dancing... just have fun!

The more versatile you are, the more things you can do, the more parts will be open to you.
You might want to take dancing, fencing, martial arts, singing and horseback riding lessons, to nake a few of the things that may be called for by a role one may be chosen for.
You might want to take a fire arms course as many roles call for the handling of the same.
You definitely need to be in the gym, unless you intened tro be a character actor (and perhaps even if you do.)
Also learn some sort of trade, or have some other sort of work to fall back on. It's a difficult business to get into and to stay in.
Good luck.
(Oh, and no tattoos! If a role calls for a tattoo, let the makeup person draw one on you. Those things are darn hard to hide!)

If you want to be a dancer in a Broadway Musical , you must take dance lessons in: Tap, jazz and ballet.
The more abilities have, the better your chance of getting hired.

Dancing is more required in musical theater, but a good actor should have solid movement concepts. A jazz class or modern dance wouldn't hurt - and if you're interested in musical theater, they're a must. Tap would also be handy because it is a special skill.

If you want to be a musical theatre actor then you probably have to learn how to dance. you usually dont need to know how to dance for regular theatre and film, however, if you are able to dance there is a wider range of parts you can play.

NO. There are plenty of acting jobs that do not require dancing. It is just that dancing is another skill that makes an actor more marketable than one who does not dance.
