is there a term in Journalism

to describe the use of mock news footage?

sometimes, when reporters can't find original images,
they have to create mock footages

any suggestion, please???

It's "reconstruction" and must be labelled as such in a broadcast.

It depends on the type of vehicle.

Sometimes, historical documentaries use "re-creations." Obviously, we can't go back and film what it was like in Philadelphia in July, 1776, so we use actors in costumes.

If it's all fake, I've heard of the word "mockumentary." It's mostly come up with "This is Spinal Tap," the funny movie from the 1980's.

If it's on a newscast, the footage had better say "re-created" somewhere, or there's a huge ethical and legal problem.

A montage is when they mock up a scene using stock photographs - is that what you mean? Or perhaps reconstruction.

Ummm, I think that term would be "fraud." Or perhaps "ethical quagmire."
