Grafiti is an art form.....but in society, it is considered an act of destruction..(of property...rightfully so). If one counts the paintings on cave walls then grafiti is at least 35,000 years old as evidenced by the art on the walls of French caves.

yes it's true graffiti has been with us as early as a man could scrawl something on a wall.Modern day graffiti started in the70's.In 1971 even a man in Washington Heights called Taki 183 who worked as a messenger made modern day graffiti big.Everyday going from one place to the next traveling the subways he would put up his name.Even thou there were other writer's at this time (Julio 204 and Frank 207),Taki 183 was the first person to be recognised across a wide area as the trains were going everywhere.More and more people started to notice and think who is this Taki 183 and started to do it themselves. Then in the mid to late 70's it was getting bigger and bigger until the early 80's when everyone was doing it.Then in England in the early 80's after the showing of the film Style Wars alot of people started to do it there.Same thing happened it got bigger and bigger making it what it is today.Even thou it may be a criminal offence it will never go away.

Graffiti classically is the etching or drawing on public building which would be man-made structures. The earliest examples are inside the walls of the pyramids (cave men made drawings, not graffiti).

That depends on whether you define it as "painting on walls" or "marking a place to say 'I was here'" Painting on walls as in recording the animals killed in a hunt is over 10,000 years old as preserved in caves in Europe and desert settings in Australia. Leaving a mark is almost as old as in putting ones hand on the wall and blowing oily soot on it to make an outline or drawing little pictures of the party.
