I am 7 weeks pregnant. I have a summer job as a cashier at a grocery store, but I always feel sick, standing sucks, I get dizzy easily... my doc told me not to lift anything over 10 lbs. The thing is, i cannot really tell my boss because it is a union, and they have 3 months to fire me, without a reason, and I have only worked there for a month. Should I quit??

It's up to you, but your symptoms might get worse before they get better because your hCG levels climb higher and higher until about the 10th or 11th week before they drop a little and level out.

well ur health is more important now than ever before u quit ask of u could work behind the till or something because u found out u are 7weeks pregnant and if they do nothing about it then quit and when u are looking for another job if u are state that u are pregnant altho it may be harder 2 get a job but if it is stated then the have no reason 2 fire u and also the job will be more suited for ur health
congrats

The first trimester is the worst...if you can hang in there for two more months, you are protected..once you hit the 12 week mark, you will probably feel a LOT better...it's hard to find work while you're obviously pregnant, so if you're able, and the doc says it's safe to work, try to tough it out...BTW..federal law doesn't apply until you've been somewhere a year (I know this from personal experience)..but if you've got union protection, that is recognized by the state etc..

It sounds like they're overreacting a little. I am 7 weeks with twins and have a very physical job...everything is as normal. I do get sick and dizzy, but that's when I drink some water and take a little break. I would say to keep your job until you feel really uncomfortable..anyway, good luck!

At my old job you can bring in a doctors note that recommends you not stand for long periods of time and that you should be provided with a chair. As long as you can still cashier while sitting, then they shouldn't have a problem not firing you. Good luck

they cannot fire you for being pregnant.. but trust me it'll get bettter. you should tell your boss in case something happens, or if you call out a few times, you'll have a good reason. tell your boss, and maybe they'll give you a lighter job for the time being or a chair to sit on while ringing people up.

First they can't fire you for pregnancy! Also, you can lift up to 25lbs usually. I am guessing there is something else for that reason. But anyways if that job is not that important than leave.

You are protected by the federal government in regards to getting fired and your pregnancy. Your boss can not fire you for your pregnancy, but he can try to find something else to fire you for. If you were to get fired and your boss told you that you were being fired due to your pregnancy or they tried to fire you right after you told them of your pregnancy, you could sue and very likely win a nice settlement.

I would try to make it through. Your symptoms should go away, be sure to eat a little bit every 2 hours to not be dizzy and nausea. I worked up until 9mo with my baby.
