The compact disc, as the name suggests, is more compact. It is much smaller and holds much more data and is thus more convenient to use everyday.

I am a big fan of vinyl and own my records on vinyl and I love the rich almost static-like tone that the vinyls have. Unfortunately, vinyls are read by needle and they slowly wear the records away. CDs are read by laser and on average last much longer than vinyls. Vinyls are also more expensive to make and much more fragile than CDs which makes it considerably more expensive to distribute (think shipping) and store. It takes more time to make vinyls while burning a CD is easier than anything nowadays.

It is hard to say one is better than the other. If I had money, I would try and get all my music on vinyl simply because I love the rich smooth sound of tracks on vinyl. But that is not how things are and I don't have tons of money.

So there are ups and downs of each. Vinyls are big, bulky, fragile, expensive, wear easily, and are harder to find nowadays. CDs are smaller, last longer, cheaper, easier to make, but may not have that nice rich tone that I really enjoy.

Hope this helps.

Because they last almost forever. Even if you take perfect care of your vinyl disks, every time you play one you wear it down a little. CDs are read with light so they never wear out.

I agree vinyl can sound 'warmer' than a CD. But I'm sure they make a filter to simulate that sound. 8^)

Oh, also vinyl disks are from a time when (I think) music was better. So naturally they sound better. 8^)

If you're familiar with vinyl, then you're also familiar with the turms wow and flutter and bias. None of those exist in CDs.

Cd's are better and you don't hear alot of static in the background. Besides, vinyl is harder to find now. :)
