If an employee costs you business and you warn them, warn them again and then fire them for the action is that all you can do? Can you sue them?

If the reason that the employee lost your business was the revelation of trade secrets, or slander, or libel, then you may have grounds for a lawsuit. If it's just because the employee did a crappy job, then all you can do is fire him.

this is a bit of a grey area-if the employee has received adequate training in his/her duties and has been been conducting them for a period of time and there are problems then his/her supervisor-manager should pick up on this. if it continues after a warning has been given then the employee should have been offered another job within the company-but if the problem persisted to the point of serious money being lost then his/her superiors should have took action-all the employee has to do is plead ignorance. in short the employee should have been correctly monitered as soon as an obvious problem arose. you do not have a case.

I agree with Bryan F, but simply add, assuming the employee did slander you and you sue and you win, can you collect?

In order to collect the judgment the defendant needs to have money.

Generally it is a bad idea to sue the unemployed.

No No once I called one of those ads that say 'does he make you come to work sue them!" told them "they were stealing from me no respect called me the old man" He said YOU have a case 'What co do you work for?" Told him I'm the employer " your out of your mind" funny but true

Probably, although the system is typically biased in favor of employees, just as it is with women in regard to men.
