1. For both the numerator and the denominator, take the Least Common Denominator.
This gives :
[(4a + 1) / a] / [(3b + 1) / b]
= b(4a + 1) / a(3b + 1)
= 4ab + b / 3ab + a ________________[A]

2. Bring all the terms containing the variable to the left and all the other terms to the right:
- 5x = -3
x = 3/5 ___________________[E]

3. sqrt. 8 = sqrt. (2^2 * 2) = 2 * sqrt. 2
sqrt. 20 = 2 * sqrt. 5
Add both of them. ______________[C]

4. Find 2 nos. whose sum is the coefficient of x (-6) and the product is the product of the coefficients of x^2 and the constant term (-16). The nos. are -8 and 2

Now split the middle term :
x^2 + 2x - 8x - 16
= x(x + 2) - 8(x + 2)
= (x - 8)(x + 2) ______________________[B]

Hope this helps.

Problem 2

x - 3x + 7 = 4x + 7 - 3 - x

collecting like terms

- 2x + 7 = 3x + 4

Transpose 2x

- 2x + 7 + 2x = 3x + 4 + 2x

7 = 5x + 4

Transpose 4

7 - 4 = 5x + 4 - 4

3 = 5x

Divide 5 on both sides of the equation

3/5 = 5x/5

3/5 = x

Problem 3

√8 + √20

√4√2 + √4√5

2√2 + 2√5

Problem 4

x² - 6x - 16 = 0

x² - 8x + 2x - 16 = 0

x(x - 8) + 2(x - 8) = 0

(x + 2) ( x - 8) = 0
