Female guppies are able to store sperm for a period of time and will randomly release babies. They do this because of the natural hardships that they endure. Lots of babies ensures success during the hard times.

I breeded vail tail , guppies as a kid and sold them to pet shops, Guppies will get pregnant soon if you don't keep her quarantined, If you don't let the female recover for a couple of months the next batch of guppies will not be of the same quality as the first or second batch, separate her and give the male new females. Those little guys are real horny.
When I was breeding them, you have to separate, them males from the females and put them in different tanks until the males develop their full grown tails. I had two tanks and I had them side by side, baby males in one and baby females on the other, do you know a male jumped from one tank and impregnated most of the females, in the other tank. I had to start all over and as a 13 year old kid I did'nt have the patience so I sold all my fish and moved on. This was in 1953, business was good then

Not right after birth, but by the time they are 6-8 weeks old, they are often sexually mature. When you have a batch of fry, start watching for the males to develop their gonopodiums, at that point separate the males from the females and only put them together when you want them to breed.
As mentioned, the females can store sperm from a single mating and produce babies up to 3 times. Each bath will come on the average 28 days apart, but this can vary quite a bit.
So if males and females are housed together yes, you will always have pregnant females and they will be constantly pregnant.

If you dont want the new babies to breed you MUST sperate the male and female before 4 weeks of age, You can tell the females from males because females have gravid spots, Use a flashlight and a magnifiing glass.
And once pregnant the can have up to 6 batches of fry as they store sperm.
