Why pay premium for a Mazda product when you can get the same species under a different brand name? In some cases cheaper. A Volvo will always cost more than a Mazda. A Mazda Tribute will have a greater cost than a Ford Escape and a Mercury Mariner will trump both. Why? What more are we getting for our dollar?

You can't get the CX-7 equivalent in anything else... Body similarities yes, but not with the DISI engine.

MX-5 ("Miata")...

Mazdaspeed3 & Mazdaspeed6

And they are all tuned differently, different spring rates, sway bars, bushings, etc.

The same applies to GM stuff. Yes, it is the same, but it isn't the same either. Get the vehicle you like to drive, changing the suspension & engine to match a sister vehicle is not going to be less than the price difference.

Or course if you like the body of one and the running gear of another, go for it! But if that was your goal, I doubt you'd be complaining about prices.

Want to save money? Buy a used car that already depreciated! Of course used cars are ridiculously expensive now. Why on earth would I pay 90% of new for a car that has 1/2 the warranty gone?

The Japanese built Mazda 3 (all versions) sits on the next-generation Focus platform that the EU version Focus uses. It also underpins some Volvos (S series??). The US Focus uses the older platform. The Mazda 6, while US built, has no Ford counterpart. Neither do the Cx7, Cx9, or Mazda 5. And, of course, the MX-5 Miata.

Lets see there is the Miata...there are the econo sedans...just because Ford owns both Mazda and Volvo, does not mean all there cars look like Fords...cause gee you just might be suprised by the fact the RAV4 isnt a real Toyota...it's a Ford and in Europe it's been called the Maverick since the early 90s.

Actually a lot of high performance stuff comes out of mazda still MX-5 is exclusive and the Mazda speed 6 is sent to japan for the extra work. Mundane Tribute Escape and hybrid are old and dated now.

Two words: "Zoom Zoom"

The Mazda models are almost always "sportier" with more aggressive styling and sportier motors & suspension.
